A Good Reason to Love Your Cow

In Newcastle University (in northeast England) they performed a study and they wanted to know, if you name your cow and give it love, will it produce more milk? And the answer is yes in most cases. The researchers discovered that farmers that named their cows Betsy, Gertrude, or Daisy improved the overall milk collection by about 500 pints a year. The researchers interviewed 516 dairy farmers and almost half of them said that the cows on their dairy farms that are named reported a higher milk yeild. "Just as people respond better to the personal touch, cows also feel happier and more relaxed if they are given a bit more one-to-one attention,"Catherine Douglas, the university's School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, said. I guess I can believe this but it does seem far fetched.

Fire in Australia

108. That is an estimate of the amount of innocent people that perished in Australia's bushfire. The fire has also destroyed hundreds of thousands of acres. Australias police are saying it the worst bushfire in the nations history. The number of dead has passed that of the 75 Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 and more than 640 houses have been completely destroyed. Phil Shepherd of the Victoria State Police compares this to, "something of a holocaust". Kevin Rudd the Prime Minister of Australia has announced the making of a 6.7 million dollar relief fund, and said, "Hell and all its fury has visited the good people of Victoria in the last 24 hours." I feel very terrible for the poor people that suffered in this crisis, and I am looking on the internet for a fund to give to for this cause.
